Internal Display Screens

Available in sizes ranging from 21″ to 42″, brightness levels from 500 nits to 1000 nits and in stretch, square and rectangular formats, our internal screens can be fitted almost anywhere on a bus, train, tram or ferry.

Either working in conjunction with a Driver/Vehicle Control Unit, or in stand alone mode, these screens can combine information from a variety of sources to provide relevant and useful information to passengers in a clear and concise fashion, whilst offering operators the opportunity to combine advertising or internal messaging with real-time information.

All information on the screen is managed via our cloud management system and can be completely tailored to your requirements.

External Display Screens

Our full colour, high definition external display screens provide crisp, clear graphics and are ideal for displaying messages with custom fonts or for logographic languages. With brightness levels of up to 3000 nits, our external screens are visible even in full sunshine.

As well as simple text messages, our screens can display full colour images and even video. Using our powerful layout design tools, screens can be configured to display a mixture of text messaging and other information e.g. a Side Blind showing estimated journey times as passengers board.

Our external screens are available in a range of sizes and formats, from 57″ stretch (full width of a bus), to 25″ square (standard number blind). The casing of the screens is designed to be compatible with other display systems, allowing for easy fitting to new and existing vehicles.

Vehicle Stop Displays

Navaho Vehicle Stop Displays are designed for use in bus shelters, travel interchanges or in stand alone locations and with brightness levels of up to 3000 nits, the clear, high definition displays are readable even in full sunshine.

With a built-in 3/4/5G modem, the Vehicle Stop Display can process a variety of data feeds to provide passengers with a full multimodal information display. For sites with existing internet connections, our displays can also use wired ethernet or wireless networking.

Our powerful design layout tools allow the creation of intuitive displays which can combine service information, company branding and other information such as onward journey times, weather, news or advertising.

Driver Control Unit

The Driver Control Unit (DCU) acts as a central hub for a display system on a vehicle. Combining information from various sources such as GPS, timing predication services, vehicle CAN bus or a vehicle body interface unit (DIU), the DCU controls all internal or external screens on a vehicle.

The touchscreen interface on the DCU allows a driver to carry out operations such as logging in to their shift, manually selecting routes and displaying special messages on screens. It also provides feedback to the driver so they can ensure external displays are showing the correct route information.

With a built-in 3/4/5G modem, the DCU is internet enabled, allowing it to not only fetch data for use in-vehicle, but also send data such as vehicle location and speed back to central servers for RTPI prediction and driver monitoring service.

The DCU reports back to our cloud monitoring system with information about the state of all the screens on a vehicle, allowing us to pick up any problems and contact customers to help resolve them. On suitably equipped vehicles, the DCU can also monitor the state of vehicle systems as well eg. state of charge of traction batteries, and using our Digital Signage systems we can provide customers with a dashboard showing the condition of of their vehicles.

Vehicle Control Unit

For vehicles operating in fully automatic mode, or with an existing driver system (eg. a ticket machine), our Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) works in much the same way as the DCU above. The VCU provides the same connections as the DCU – ie. 3/4/5G modem, GPS, CAN and bus body interface via DIU.

Instead of using a touchscreen for the driver to select which mode the display screens should be working in, the VCU takes a data feed from existing on-board equipment. Our unique journey management system allows for multiple data sources to be configured for a vehicle, so should the data feed from the on-board system fail, the VCU can fall back to external RTPI systems or even GPS to determine which service a vehicle is running.

Our journey management system is modular, allowing for different data sources to be selected as per a customers requirements – it is even possible to switch from one data provider to another with a simple over the air update to the VCU.

All of our control units run an in-house built Linux operating system which is capable of hosting applications from other third parties eg. CCTV or passenger counting systems. This allows operators to reduce the cost, weight and power consumption of equipment on their vehicles by consolidating multiple services onto a single control unit. Built-in firewalling and software defined networking allows us to segregate applications and any external devices (eg. cameras) that they need to connect to.

Digital Interface Unit

Every vehicle manufacturer designs and builds their vehicles in different ways and with different power and signalling systems. To simplify the installation of our systems onto existing and new vehicles, our Digital Interface Unit (DIU) bridges the gap between the bus body and our Vehicle and Driver Control Units.

Designed to be short-circuit and over-voltage proof, the DIU provides 7 inputs for sensing signals such as master power, engine on, doors open/closed and stop requested. Theses inputs are used by the DCU/VCU to turn screens on and off and also to alter the content of the screens – displaying a Bus Stopping message for example.

The DIU also provides a number of outputs which are connected to each screen on the vehicle as a on/off control. This allows the system (or driver) to individually control each screen on the vehicle so that they are not powered up unnecessarily to reduce power consumption eg. when a vehicle is on the road but not in service.

Versions of the DIU are also available that provide interfaces to custom data links on a a vehicle that are not supportably directly by our DCU or VCU eg. IBUS.
